A walkthrough is the way we perform and update the asset catalog.A complete and accurate asset catalogue is fundamental in any effective maintenance program as one of the foundational elements. An asset catalogue is not only the list of assets within the plant, it also includes system descriptions, a hierarchy structure, component configurations, component attribute data, etc.

The reason an asset catalogue is considered ‘foundational’ relates to effective management of assets knowing the currently “As Installed Condition” is consistently maintained within a site. The latest, most up to date asset list is used for future planned maintenance and reliability initiatives and if it is incorrect then every future modification or process change initiative will be inherently flawed.

The purpose of performing a walkthrough is to verify and collect all the data and information from systems, equipments and components. By doing this we ensure:

  • P&ID ‘As Installed’ condition
  • Correct equipment and component identification
  • All equipments and components are identified.
  • Equipment and component locations are where they should be.
  • Relevant attribute information has been compiled

Below are a few examples of where the asset catalog accuracy can impact performance and results :

  • Reliability Engineering
    • FMEA
    • PM Build
  • Operational Excellence
    • Spares/BOM optimization and development
    • RCA
    • Maintenance strategy development
    • Work Execution Management
    • Cost allocation and budgetary management
    • Asset standardization
    • Supplier contract (OEM and/or 3rd party)
  • Condition Monitoring Deployment
